What are the Methods, Advantages and Disadvantages of Graphical Representation of Data

A graphical representation is a visual representation of data sets. It uses graphs, charts and plots to interpret the numerical data. It represents the data gathered through surveying. The graph makes it easier to understand and gives more clarity to the readers than by only numerical study.

Methods of Graphical Representation of Data

Line graph

This graph is also known as linear graph or line chart. It shows information that does not remain constant over time. It consists of two axes: the x-axis and the y-axis.

Pie chart

Pie chart is a circle with several components. The full circle represents the value of components altogether.

Bar graph

There are two types of bar graphs- horizontal and vertical. Horizontal bar graph represents qualitative data and vertical bar graph represents quantitative data.

Histogram

Histogram is represented on the two-dimensional graph. It has continuous bars without any gaps.

Advantages of Graphical Representation of Data

i. It makes the data easier to understand by its visual representation.

ii. It shows the whole data in an instance and saves times.

iii. It makes the comparison of datas easier and faster.

iv. It can be used in several fields such as from mathematics to economics.

v. It is less expensive as there is no cost of printing information.

vi.There is fewer changes of having errors and mistakes.

Disadvantages of Graphical Representation of Data

i. There are various methods of representing data which can make the researcher difficult to select the suitable method.

ii. It may be complicated and difficult for some people to understand graphical representation.

iii. As graphical representations are complex, there are higher chances of mistakes and errors.

iv. Graphical representation can be costly as it requires images and colours.

v. It takes more effort and time to prepare comparatively to normal reports.

Conclusion

Graphical representation helps in quick analysis of huge data. It makes understanding the data collected easier and clearer to understand. Relationship between variables is quicker by graphical illustration. The method of graphical representation can be chosen by looking at which is the most suitable for the research topic.
