Back to: Learning and Teaching Unit 5
Teaching skills are the practices adopted by teachers to keep students engaged. These skills will help the teacher make class lessons interesting and provide an effective learning experience to the students. Teaching skills are very important for a teacher. Providing satisfactory teaching will enable teachers to get the respect of students and colleagues. Some teaching skills come naturally while some training may be needed.
Types of Teaching Skills
The different types of teaching skills are:
Introducing the lesson
The teacher has to perform set induction to introduce the lesson to the students by asking questions and testing the previous knowledge of learners creatively.
Questioning
Because interaction is highly important while teaching, during micro-teaching, teachers are exposed to interactive skills through interacting with learners by asking them questions, prompting them, and solving their queries.
Stimulus Variation
Teachers need to keep moving around the class to ensure every student is paying attention to which stimulus variation is involved in micro-teaching.
Reinforcement
Reinforcement is highly essential in teaching so that learners can feel motivated enough to learn. Hence, teachers have to employ reinforcement in micro-teaching.

The teacher gives a thorough explanation of the topic that is being taught in the classroom so that the learners can have clarity and comprehension of the lesson.
Recapitulation
To make sure the learners have understood everything, the teacher revises the lesson, asks some questions, and gives them a home assignment.
During the teaching-learning process, implementing all these six skills is necessary as it ensures that the learners are comprehending the lesson effectively and the process is being successful.
