Explain Education as a process of socialisation and as a process of reconstruction of experiences

School is the main institution where socialisation is taught. The process of socialisation is the process of education. Both help in the overall development of an individual. Knowledge is not universal but personal meaning it depends on how a person reconstructs their experiences. 

Education as a Process of Socialisation 

There would be no society without socialisation. For society to exist, socialisation is necessary. The knowledge, skills, beliefs, values, culture, religion, norms, and languagefollowed since ages is passed on to the next generation through education. Individuals will understand what is expected of then as they grow and adopt their roles responsibly. Socialisation makes an individual independent and able to take risks. One will be able to make decisions and solve problems on their own.

Through interacting with others and the society, individuals will realise where their interestslie and work towards improving in it. Socialisation will adopt different feelings of emotionsin humans. People will treat each other with respect and listen to one another with compassion and empathy. Socialisation will prepare an individual to communicate properly with a person or a large group and behave in an acceptable manner. Socialisation makes an individual ready for the world and helps in their personal growth.

Education as a Process of Reconstruction of Experiences

In the words of John Dewey, “Education is the process of living through a continuous reconstruction of experiences”. John Dewey believed education was necessary for society. Education should be about social interactions and freedom of participation in the classroom for it to be effective. It is not only about transmitting information to the students but teaching them the methods of acquiring information for themselves.

Actual learning is done by practising and that experience is education. The educationallearnings should be connected with the real world. There needs to be social interaction and activities in the classroom and not just limited to teaching. Education is not about preparing one for their future but for the present. The human mind and society should keep changing and advancing with time for good. Enhancing learning with the interests of the students and making it active learning.
