An academic writing refers to a piece of writing which is done to complete the requirements of an educational institution. Any assignment which is given in an academic setting can be referred to as academic writing. Academic writing can be found in sources such as books, essays, translations, research papers, academic journals, conference papers, and the like.

To Persuade:
Academic writing is done to persuade people about certain things. Academic writing may be proposing a certain theory or idea which it may seek to be influential to more people. Professional writing is geared towards persuading an audience to act in a certain way or to obtain a certain belief.
To Analyse or Synthesise:
Academic writing also aims to gain a deeper insight into the concerned topic so that it can be analysed and broken down into pieces for better understanding. This enables the researcher to come up with a new theory related to the topic.
To Inform:
The main idea behind academic writing is to inform the audience about a new discovery or about an information where people need to shed more light on. Through writing, learners aim to bring the same into highlight.

The steps for writing an academic statement of purpose is as follows:
Add Details:
Without mentioning one’s personal details, a statement of purpose is considered to be incomplete. All the necessary details such as name, address, contact, date of birth, and the like should be filled in accurately to avoid hassle.
Add Qualifications:
Following details, the qualifications, both educational and professional if any, must be mentioned. All the requirements must be added clearly in the statement of purpose.
Add Interests:
Apart from personal details and qualifications, one must also add their academic interests to show what topic you are interested in for research.
Proofread:
Proofreading is highly necessary because you may have missed out on certain important information or there may be a slight error in your writing. Hence, this step should not be skipped.
Keep It Concise:
One must not overload the statement of purpose with unnecessary information. It is better to keep it brief and concise.
Academic writing is highly important for persuading and informing the audience and these steps must be followed to do the same effectively.
