A central tendency is a central value of a whole set of data. It describes a set of data by the centre value of the data distribution. The term central tendency started getting used in the late 1920s. Central tendency helps in determining the numerical point of a data. It allows researchers in knowing the central value of a data distribution. "Measures of Central Tendency" is an important concept in the study of statistics. Some of the ways of finding central tendency are mean, median, mode, and midrange. Mean is the average of the values of the data set, median is the middlemost value within a data set, mode is the most commonly occurring value in a data set, and mid-range is the difference between the maximum and minimum values in a dataset. The purpose of central tendency is to represent entire datacollected. It is the single value that is representative of the data.
